During a gym session this morning, my friend and colleague and I were watching NBC's Today Show while working it out on the treadmill.
I mentioned to her that I am not a fan of Matt Lauer–I know that most viewers love Matt, but there's just something about him that's always bugged me–I don't know what it is.
Maybe it's just that he's too cute, too nice and too good at his job. Those kind of people always bug me; really, who can be that put together that early in the morning? And I realize this is probably an irrational dislike, but since when do you have to be rational in blog posts?
But I digress ... my exercising partner was appalled. "Not like Matt Lauer?" she asked in horror, "How can you not like Matt Lauer?'
I'd like to point out a few things here.
First, I get this response a lot.
Second, in every conversation in which I have discussed Matt, everyone says his first and last name when speaking about him. Can't we just go with Matt? Isn't that acceptable to relinquish the last name after the person's been identified in the conversation?
Nope. Not good enough for Matt Lauer. Got to say his last name too. I bet it's in his contract.
I started to explain my reasons, which are pretty well thought out at this point, when she appeared on screen. None other than Miss Anne Curry.
I love her.
Some people will say, oh you, you're overstating it. To them I say no ... no, I'm not.
Can you find a better morning news anchor than Anne? I don't think so.
(Notice I just say Anne and not her last name because that's the level I feel we're at- oh you've met? you might ask, no, no we haven't. But she's just one of those morning reporters that makes me feel like she could be like my friend or like best friend or something, I mean like ever)
My friend respectfully, but ignorantly disagreed with me.
So we're taking a poll to see what the general public thinks:

I hardly ever write on these (is this a message board or blog - I don't know the difference), but I HAVE to say how annoying and what a terrible interviewer Ann Curry is. I can't stand it!!! Matt is so-so - not as great as he thinks he is, but relatively harmless. Ann is just horrible. It is PAINFUL to watch her. I wonder how many guests request that she NOT be the one to interview them. She is the WORST.
Ann Curry sucks! The worst interviewer, nonsensical, one of those people who doesn't listen to what is being said - just focuses on what they are going to say next, etc. Not sure there are enough negative things that can be said about her style (disingenuous, argumentative, simple-minded, unintelligent) and wonder whom she is sleeping with in the exec group to keep her job so long......
Ann Curry sucks big time - she is the worst interviewer ever - she cuts off her guests all the time, does not bother to let them talk or complete their sentences even before she jumps in with another stupid question... she should stick to the news where she doesn't have to interact with other people...
I love Matt Lauer. I also love Anne Curry. You are right. She could be my BFF too. I've watched the Today's show since I was little. It was one of my mother's favorite shows to watch in the morning during summers off. I was really happy when Katie Couric left. LOL. Now, she was very silly.
I can't stand Matt Lauer. He is so biased and acts like a ranting, whining toddler who is unable to remain neutral or keep his personal opinions to himself. If you're going to be that emotional, you have no business in that industry. He always has that same nasty, rude , emotional approach. Whatever happened to objective reporting. Anne is okay, something about her turns me off slighlty but she dosen't bug me like Matt. I love Meredith, she has positive energy and even though she gets a bit biased about certain things, I can still take it. She dosen't turn me off like that clown Matt.When are they gonna replace his tail?
I find Ann Curry to be unbelievable. Not as in complimenting a fine piece of music, or a job done better than well...but as in phony and affected. Word from Rock Center is that she is like that nightmare friend, who is so sickening sweet that your blood sugar could spike, but can turn on you in a heartbeat, with a temper that is quite ugly. Not a nice person.
And that is exactly how I believe she projects across the tube. She consistently talks over people, including the real hosts of Today. She seems to be over-compensating constantly by laughing too hard (drowning out actual conversation), talking too much, and listening too little. She is the poster child for 'cloying'.
I used to be merely annoyed with her, and patiently tolerated her, until her segments concluded. Now, I am quickly on the remote control to another channel. My favorite Today Show phrase?...Filling in for Ann Curry who is on assignment! If they could keep her on assignment, the Today Show could recapture me as a viewer...as unbelievable as that may sound.
Anne Curry always has to interject her own pathetic opinions when she should just keep her mouth shut. She is a poor news reader and an even worse interviewer.
The both suck and the two of them are responsible in part for ruining news reporting. Lets not even begin to debate Meredith. She is the outcome of the other two.
I think Anne was fine behind the news desk, just reading the news, but she is terrible at interviewing, and she is completely annoying. I don't like watching her at all.
I just found this blog after a google search for "anne curry sucks" because Anne Curry is filling in for Brian Williams tonight. I hit pause on my itunes podcast to write this. Anne Curry's disturbing face is frozen on my screen looking at me as I type. This woman is an abomination to nationwide television. I agree with almost everyone here...I even learned new adjectives describing eloquently all the ways Anne Curry is such a bummer. And I'd like to add a noun to that list: pathos. Pathos on news shows makes me want to hurl, eat that hurl, and then hurl again. Anne Curry tries to evoke something pathetic from any story, even something so happy as a lottery winner or a little girl getting her first puppy. *blech* She scares me, and I am even more scared if it really is true that she has an ugly temper. She is a frightened animal in a cage. I was hoping she would somehow get a clue about life after she went on that trek up the side of Mt. Himalaya. But nope.
...and by "mount Himalaya", I meant "Mount Everest". duh, me.
Matt No-Surname-Needed is a far better journalist. How else can you describe Anne Curry's gaffe at the Commander-in-Chief's Ball this evening, deftly observing that " ... there are no five-star generals in attendance." (Memo to Anne: The U.S. hasn't had a five-star since MacArthur!)
As a Journalist who speaks WITH experience. Ann Curry does not suck. This posting is full of jealous amateurs who feel the need to belittle another’s success, because you don't have one of your own. I can put any of you negative folks in front of the camera, as proof of who would really suck at such an amazing job, that not everyone is capable of doing. The point is she's amazing. Matt is amazing, everyone who struggled thorough the poor pay as a journalist....just to work their way up to a position like the Folks on the today show deserve praise. So take your bitter asses and shove it!
just watched anne (the filthy) curry interview brad pitt in france. He tried to talk numerous times when that insincere, leaning in with the overly concerned look on her face hack kept on talking over him. What is wrong with that talking head? her style screams 'its about me' even when she is talking to and about someone else. I don't care about what she thinks, she thinks she is so cute and interesting, that the viewers want to hear from her along with the person she is interviewing. I hardly watch the today show any longer. I never believed i could hate the show more that when Couric was smiling her way to the top. She is just one more example of a culture who puts undeserving "personalities' on pedestals and then listens to all their drivel as if it is from above.

After watcing one segment of the Today Show this morning - a segment with Matt Lauer and Anne Curry filling in for Meredith - I'd already reached my level of tolerance. I came to the computer to see whether anyone else has been curious about Anne's need to ALWAYS get the last word, and landed here. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who finds her intolerable. I watched a segment last week with Al, Ann, Matt, and Meredith interviewing Quentin Tarantino (sp?). Ann's constant comments and talking over others made me feel uncomfortable; I can't imagine that the others appreciate her behavior.
Reading all your nasty posts about how "horrible" Anne Curry is and how "sucky" Matt Lauer is only making me appreciate them all the more.
You all, who posts these negative nasty remarks, are not only unintelligent but obviously JEALOUS!! C'mon. How old are you anyway? Are you kids in Jr. High still or what?? People like you have nothing good to post and when you respond to anothers remarks or make silly come-backs about anothers "mis-spells" you really have nothing great to come back with in the first place... Really, if you had even an ounce of wisdom and self esteem, you would not be on websites, trashing other people just to build yourself up. You know who you are and You know I am right!! I do not like Anne Curry at all. She seems so phony with her weird soft voice and interrupts people trying to talk. I also can't stand the way she sets..bent over in your face way.It will hard for me to watch my favorite news show now that she will be sitting nest to Matt. I'm really surprised that they chose her and not look for someone with talent to help keep the ratings up. She is a good journalist at times but notup for this job.

I am bored with Matt Lauer. I love Ann Curry. She is so empathetic and caring to all on the show. However, I think she is still adjusting to her new job with Matt. She will be fine. Matt needs to go. I am really glad Merideth left the show. She could not hide the problems she was having with Matt. Ann may have the same problem.
Please fire Ann from the Today show. Ahhh that fake look of concern just kills me. She is so annoying I searched "Ann Curry Sucks" on my phone. Just fire her already. Please!!!!!!

Im actually good at what I do and it is frustrating to see someone that is that bad at their job just allowed to continue on. Somebody train her or fire her. I have watched today's show for many years, and I never have disliked it as much as now.Matt Lauer was contemplating leaving. he should go. I think it should be just Ann and Al, I don't like to talk about people but Matt is arrogant, and he treats Ann so cold.He probably miss Meredith, and didn't want Ann to get the Job. I really like Ann Curry. I was even wondering why they didn't replace her for Katie Couric. Also, I can't figure out why Matt is so rude and cold to her. It's obvious in all of his "interactions" with her. What going on.
Please Meredith - come back! I watch "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire" now just to get a glimpse of her warmth, genuine kindness and silly humor. Ann Curry wants the admiration Meredith got from Matt but she falls flat EVERY SINGLE DAY -- Matt looks straight ahead as she yammers on and on. I watch -and enjoy - Good Morning America more and more.
The movie "Idiocracy" has become a documentary now.
Ann Curry is revolting.

Ann Curry specializes in wearing facial expressions that match the news.

GMA has a segment called "pop news heat index", which shows how far this country has fallen.
They shove this crap in your face and hope to convince you that everything is fine.
In many ways a major depression would be the best thing for this nation of deluded robots.

Ann's style of leaning in during an interview is a joke. Before the person can respond, she has an unrelated interview question. She interrupts and is all over the board and is usually impersonating her version of the bubbly, super popular high school girl. The show has too much class for her. While interviewing a guy about the death of his wife and kids, she will ask if that made him sad and when he will be over the pain... duh
I have just read all the comments about Ann Curry and I cannot believe the many negative comments. I have always thought Ann is a sincere caring person who does not try and take the lime light. I feel so bad that NBC is firing her. I don't know how Matt treats his co-host or anyone else on the show when the cameras are not rolling but he certainly deserves the job he holds. He is gooood at his profession.
Ann, you are worth your weight in gold so hold your head high and just wait and see all of the offers you get. NBC you are RUDE & CRUDE and do not deserve Ann.
I love Ann Curry. NBC is crazy for firing her, I hope Matt had nothing to do with this. I will not watch NBC News till they reinstate Ann Curry.

I guess I can thank Matt Lauer for making me a new GMA fan!! Ann Curry was a delight - probably too much of a delight for Matt - he doesn't like competition that's clear. He couldn't even honor her years of dedication to NBC by giving her a respectful send off. That sealed the deal for me - I'm with GMA and the new Charlie Rose show - two good choices every morning. Don't even miss NBC!
