This is a quickie, but on Sunday afternoon I had the best experience at Jack Rabbit, a running store on 7th Avenue in Brooklyn.
Todd, who I later found out is the store manager, sought me out as a confused and overwhelmed customer and found me a great sneaker.
He asked me few questions about my running, then looked at my feet and said he guessed I'm a pronator, which I am, and then filmed me running on a treadmill and analyzed my running.
He was funny, polite, but most important, he thoughtfully answered every question I had (and I had a lot of them) about running, sneakers, running hats, marathons, half marathons and the Iron Man competition (I don't have any fantasies about doing one of these any time soon, but find it particularly interesting).

Hunter,
You are right to remark that Jackrbt is the best running store ever. Oddly enough, I was thinking of venturing to Super Runners' soon, but your experience yesterday has led me to believe I was CRAZY to think that. Also, Todd would kill me if he ever found out.
Like you, Hunter, I recently had an amazing Jack Rabbit experience. Though, this store was just off Union Square on 14th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. I need new sneakers so bad that they go out for a toodle on their own every now and again. I just couldn't seem to find a shoe that could replace my Nike Shox circa 2003. Each time I'd think I found a replacement, I'd go running and by mile 2 I would know that we were just not meant to be. Finally, after much prodding from my marathoner boyfriend, I went to Jack Rabbit. They videotaped me running in 15 second increments with dozens of different sneakers until I found one that was not only comfy but also one where I did not pronate to an extreme that seemed almost impossible. I ended up with a pair of Asics that look like I could make an espresso with them. But darn, they are comfy. I ran twice this weekend, 3+ miles each time, and my feet felt great. I'll never sneaker-shop anywhere else!
